Tech Tip: U.S. Government Moves to Ramp Up Commercial Building Efficiency

March 24, 2014

Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill designed to ramp up efficiency in commercial buildings and data centers known as the “Energy Efficiency Improvement Act of 2014.”

The bipartisan bill has big plans . It will ease nearly $2 billion of utility bills for tenants and landlords of commercial buildings by 2030 and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 12 million metric tons. It will do so through a new, voluntary “Tenant Star” program, which will merge interests of commercial building owners and their tenants. The “Tenant Star” program complements the Energy Star program and addresses overlooked savings in leased spaces. The program plans to reduce the $20 billion spent on commercial buildings’ energy use every year.

At Trane, we are already helping companies realize environmental and cost efficiencies from their high performance buildings. If you are interested in how Trane is working to ease utility bills and reduce carbon emissions for our clients, explore our website.
