Preparing for A2L Refrigerants

technicians-working.jpg

Familiar refrigerants, including R-410A, are being phased out in newly manufactured equipment, with next-generation, low global warming (GWP) refrigerants becoming the new reality. These new refrigerants, classified as A2L, have been described as having "lower flammability" characteristics which will impact how systems are designed, installed, and maintained.

Contractors are invited to watch this webinar to learn how to prepare for these new refrigerants. Understand what is changing and what is not, new handling processes, and safe storage and transportation practices.

Key Takeaways:

  • Learn the facts about A2L refrigerants, specifically R-32 and R-454B
  • Understand what’s changing and what’s not
  • Prepare for new handling practices with refrigerants
  • Learn more about leak detection and site modifications
  • Know how to properly store and transport A2L refrigerants
  • The safety culture around safe handling of A2L refrigerants
  • Process changes when working with these refrigerants

Paul Dombroski - Refrigerant Manager, CHVAC North America, Service Operations

Born and raised in Ohio, just south of Cleveland, Paul Dombroski grew up in a large family as one of eleven children. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work and ethics, contributing to the family’s needs around the homestead. As his siblings graduated high school, many entered the trades, becoming pipefitters, electricians, and tool and die makers. Following in their footsteps, Paul began his career in the trades as a pipefitter apprentice with York International in 1991. His career quickly advanced as he worked on HVAC equipment and systems.

In 2001, Paul relocated to Chattanooga, TN, where he continued his journey with York International. By the following year, he had become a Shop Steward and one of the Lead Technicians. In March 2007, Paul made a pivotal move to Trane. Within a few years, he took on the responsibility of managing the local office’s refrigerant management system, ensuring compliance and accurate recordkeeping.

Paul's dedication and strong work ethic led to opportunities at the District, Regional, and ultimately, North American levels. With over 30 years of field experience as a Technician and a deep understanding of the regulatory aspects of the Clean Air Act, a specialized role was created for him in May 2021. In this role, Paul focuses on the company’s compliance with refrigerant-related activities, preparing the Technician workforce for changes such as the current Low-GWP Transition, and ensuring the safety of Technicians throughout their workday.

Paul Dombroski’s career is a testament to his commitment to excellence and his ability to adapt and lead in the ever-evolving HVAC industry.
