Windy City Makes Building Owners Prove Energy Savings Claims Aren't Blowing Smoke
October 17, 2013
Although several U.S. cities have energy efficiency requirements for large commercial and residential buildings, Chicago has become the first one to mandate the verification of building energy data.
When talking with other U.S. cities that have enacted efficiency benchmarking, Chicago leaders found that most regretted not including the independent verification of building data in their mandates. They took that feedback to heart and will require data to be verified by a registered architect, professional engineer or other designated professional every three years.
Energy efficiency targets and requirements are important, but we here at Trane know that the ability to measure a building’s performance is the only way to know whether the upfront investment is truly paying off and hitting the targets.
Our Trane Intelligent Services team works with building owners and operators around the world to ensure not only that accurate data is collected, but provides rigorous analysis and specific recommendations for optimizing a building’s performance to keep it on track.
Our process is simple: Building controls send continuous data to the Trane Intelligent Services Center, where our exclusive software analytics analyzes the information and determines the actions needed to keep results on track, including sending alerts the moment an urgent need is detected.
Setting the stage for a high performance building is important, but ensuring that it performs to the highest standards is the only way that the investment will pay off in terms of financial success and achieving efficiency benchmarks.
